Starfish Outreach is a non-profit organization founded in 2007 that seeks to empower the lives of children and their communities in Belize through the transforming power of education.
In order to empower communities, we build and equip preschools, offer medical training in First Aid and CPR, and hold community workshops teaching vocational skills.
Over the last ten years we've been able to build and renovate two preschools, complete with new electrical wiring, indoor plumbing, storm-resistant roofing, and kitchen facilities. These new schools now serve more than 40 students a year in villages where early education was previously nonexistent.
Training for hospital staff and first responders is limited in Belize, which lead us to establish an annual series of certification seminars in First Aid and CPR. Since 2015, we've certified over 130 people, and provided dozens of local law enforcement officers and civil servants with First Aid training.
Teaching skills, making friends, and building up the community are just a few of the benefits of our vocational workshops. Each year, dozens of locals in Dangriga join us for sewing classes where we share new techniques. In the future, we hope to equip a community center with the tools necessary to teach woodworking and metalworking classes!
