Mike arrived at GCC in January 2005, after nearly 23 years serving as an associate pastor at different churches. Mike’s education includes a B.A. in Psychology, an M.A. in Clinical Psychology, and post-graduate work in the field of Ministry.Mike loves to travel, having made several trips across the U.S. as well as Europe, South America, and Asia.
Johnny Deryeghiayan YOUTH PASTOR
Johnny joined us in 2015 after serving over 10 years as an Associate Pastor at Pasadena Armenian Church of the Nazarene. Johnny graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University in 2003 with a B.A. in Church Music/Youth Ministry and graduated from Fuller Seminary in 2006 with a Masters in Biblical Studies and Theology. In his spare time, Johnny loves reading theological books, playing/composing music, working out, and eating cotton candy and sno cones.
Mackenzie Smith YOUNG ADULT PASTOR
Mackenzie joined GCC in 2017 as our Young Adult Ministry Pastor. He graduated from Azusa Pacific University with his B.A. and M.Div, and is an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene. Mackenzie and his wife, Alyssa, were married in August 2015, and have been partnering together in ministry since they met in 2013. Mackenzie’s ideal day is some combination of reading, afternoon coffee, Ultimate Frisbee, winning at Settlers of Catan, and watching the Lord of the Rings (again).
Joel Clifft MUSIC DIRECTOR
Dr. Joel Clifft is the Director of Keyboard Studies at Azusa Pacific University, where he teaches music theory. He is also an adjunct faculty member at USC where he teaches collaborative piano to undergraduate piano majors. Joel has been actively involved in worship leadership in many churches, including Lake Avenue Congregational in Pasadena, Shadow Mountain Church in San Diego, EV Free in Fullerton, and several others.
Stephen Martin CHOIR DIRECTOR
Stephen Martin has been active as an educator, music pastor, conductor, composer, and arranger for the last 20 years. He has arranged and scored music for film, symphonic orchestra, big band, vocal jazz, and chamber groups. He currently serves as Program Director for the Music & Worship program at APU, teaching courses in worship arts leadership, worship design, arranging, and orchestration. He is married to his beautiful wife Shannon of 20 years, and has three wonderful children, Hannah, Rayna, and Micah.
